Health Canada introduces new rules for supplemented foods, front-of-package nutrition labeling

Historically, producers and distributors have needed to receive a Temporary Marketing Authorization (TMA) to promote supplemented meals i Canada. Supplemented meals already in the marketplace with a TMA or software submitted earlier than July 21, 2022, may have till December 31, 2025, to adjust to the brand new laws.

However, all new supplemented meals might want to instantly adjust to the laws, which stipulate that added elements have to be on a list of permitted supplemental ingredients,​ whereas merchandise have to be on a list of permitted supplemented food categories.

If the complement class or ingredient will not be on both listing, producers can petition Health Canada to amend the lists, though it has not but outlined how this course of will work.
