
Department of Animal Nutrition, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana in affiliation with Animal Nutrition Society of India (ANSI) and Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL), New Delhi carried out a workshop on ‘Genetically Modified (GM) crops in animal vitamin: science and security elements’.
The workshop was attended by greater than 100 members from college of various veterinary universities, KVKs, dairy & poultry feed millers, and farmers. Dr. Udeybir Chahal, President ANSI welcomed the visitors and highlighted the significance of genetically modified (GM) crops.
Dr. Vibha Ahuja, Chief General Manager of BCIL in her keynote handle revealed the security and regulatory elements of GM crops as animal feed.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU in his presidential handle knowledgeable that greater than 95% of animals used for meat and dairy within the USA devour GM crops. As the demand of animal merchandise will increase daily, crops with excessive yields and free from pests, and so forth have to be developed to maintain animal manufacturing. He emphasised clear the myths associated to GM.
Deliberations on GM crops had been made by Dr. Ani Bency Jacob, from the Department of Animal Husbandry GOI, and Dr. Parveen Chhuneja, Director, School of Agricultural Biotechnology PAU, Ludhiana.
Dr. Dharampal Chaudhary, from ICAR- Indian Institute of Maize Research, mentioned GM maize with a deal with animal feed. Dr. Milind Ratnaparkhe, from ICAR- Indian Institute of Soybean Research, Indore highlighted the nutritive worth of GM soybean.
Dr. Pawan Kumar from US Soybean Export Council defined the instruments for checking the feed high quality. Sh. Amit Sachdev, Regional Consultant- South Asia, US Grains Council delivered a chat on international feed availability and the function of GM crops.
An interactive session with scientists, feed millers, dairy and poultry farmers relating to the alternatives and challenges in animal vitamin was coordinated by Dr. APS Sethi, Secretary, ANSI, and Dr. Parminder Singh, Principal Scientist.
Industry and academia had wholesome discussions relating to the value, availability, and high quality points associated to animal feed. Dr. SS Dahiya, Vice President, ANSI proposed the vote of thanks and emphasised the necessity of organizing extra such conferences to clear the doubts relating to GM.
