ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: The excessive price of weight problems, possession of smartphones, and on-line seek for diet and weight-reduction plan data amongst African American ladies (AAW) present a singular alternative to develop cost-effective, accessible, and acceptable mHealth weight administration packages for them. Furthermore, they need to take part within the growth and analysis of those packages.
OBJECTIVE: To discover ideally suited elements of a culturally related mHealth weight administration program for AAW and to look at how these elements might range by age group.
DESIGN: Twelve focus group triads had been carried out with AAW in north central Florida. The framework methodology was used to handle, manage, synthesize, and analyze information themes by age teams: 18 to 29 (younger), 30 to 50 (center age), and 51+ (older).
PARTICIPANTS/SETTING: Thirty-six smartphone house owners who expressed a need to drop a few pounds had been recruited via a number of group partnerships.
RESULTS: Based on physique mass index (BMI), younger ladies had been labeled as chubby (BMI 26.23 ± 6.7), middle-aged ladies as overweight (BMI30.72 ± 8.31), and older ladies as overweight (BMI 31.03 ± 5.67). Most searched on-line for weight-reduction plan data inside the previous 12 months. Five overarching themes for designing mHealth weight administration packages had been recognized: (1) holistic program that goes past weight-reduction plan; (2) social media integration for help and sense of group; (3) self-monitoring app; (4) two-way textual content messaging; and (5) packages of various lengths and significant incentives.
CONCLUSION: AAW had been receptive to mHealth weight administration packages, which can be interesting throughout and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Holistic packages of 4 to six weeks that addressed stress consuming, had a social media element, and included a couple of academic texts per week could also be interesting to AAW.
